Health

The health impacts of industrial scale wind turbines on humans are widely publicized and documented. Generally, studies have found that the frequency of health complaints increases as distance between people and turbines shrinks. This is due in no small part to the close association between wind turbine noise and health impacts. Noise related sleep disturbances account for the majority of wind turbine related health complaints and have been reported as far as 1.9 miles from the offending windmills.

This would seem to be an easy problem for regulatory agencies to address as more restrictive siting standards could potentially eliminate health impacts on humans. Not surprisingly, the wind industry and their governmental supporters have resisted any regulations that would impede developers from placing wind turbines, at their convenience, among the people who will have to live with the fallout. They have systematically dismissed reports of health issues associated with these installations despite calls from medical professionals all over the world to give greater scrutiny to this important subject. Remember, the tobacco industry denied for many years the negative health impacts of their products.
